Koford, CB Colobus abyssinicus 7 November 1965 Kibale Forest, Toro, Uganda (reced (c?)) I.2 w, 5 (incl. 1 blacking). Then no census with Ridhan home to .8 to 2.15. Hugh Powell said colobus in botanical garden, Entebbe. 13 November 1965. Mr. Moiben (15 mi. S. Kitale), W. Kenya. Visited Richard Leather, cattle rancher. KRI Hall had told me that colobus were in riverine forest on Mailen river on Leather's ranch. Leather friendly Englishman; offered housing & other hospitality. He showed us site where Leather's Hall abroad, about 2 miles from house. Riverine forest 40-60'; mostly thin trees, in semi-arid cattle country. Rolling country. Forest belt about 100 yds. wide. He said Hall saw about 4 bands, some of about 7; & stayed there about 5 days (should have counted in notes). We saw 1 to 4 in about 3 places. White hair long, as on Mt. Elgon, & apparently had parachuting function in "dropping" leaps. Leather thought river left river forest. Forest mod. foliage only, but generally more foliage than when we worked most in Kibale Forest. Much drier here, & tree species different. Some Podocarpus (?), willow, slaty rein. Clear but moonless evening. At 2130, roaring calls from 2 or 3 parts forest. 14 November 1965. More calls in night, & about 0450 when half-moon up; much calling, & coughing grunts of (colobus?) from different areas, as if started by some disturbance (leopard?). C. mitis in same forest. / About 0900, after wind came up, crossed river (to N.), walked 1/2 mile W, came to S., & walked back to camp. In last 1/2 mile saw 2 groups, one of 10+ (incl. 3m + juvs.), one of 8½ (incl. 1m + juvs.) - some carried kids, but overall alarmed at 100 yds. & view poor. Drops of 15-20'; straight form, more common than in Kibale gps. White fur very clean & tail tips conspicuous. Nairobi, Kenya 21 November 1965. Leslie Brown said he once saw in Longonot crater about 40 mi. from Nairobi, in fig trees near crater floor. I visited
