C. Koford 30 Colobus abyssinicus 19 October 1965. Kapkwata, NEMt Elgon, Uganda about 300 to 600' above level Lito River, about 1/2 mile in from forest edge. But I saw one adult feeding atop tree 70 yds. from road, 1/4 mile NW of rest house, within 1/4 mile edge village. I have let up rain now, but clouds darkened again. Rain at night 20 October 1965. Rain all day. About 4 p.m., after rain stopped, went to top of fire tower (150' rock overlooking forest). At base of the rock, saw 4 (1 jnr), incl. "stump tail." Two climbed several yards up rough rock cliff face. They ate leaves of compound leaved tree w. trip leaves red, very small ( ). Trees about 80'; about 1/2 height of cliffs. / Two ads. in 80' green tree at edge forest to W. of town. And below + SW of town, where 1 1/2 claim. cypress tree at forest edge, 2 juns, + 2 at ads., 2 or 3 being on dead old fallen logs in the rudaceous tangle, 50' from forest edge (not just a forest crown heart). On alarm, three climbed up into cypress trees. / Visibility good, but I discovered more in - (3 + 1/2 at near edge forest). discular sweeps of about 2 sq. mi. of forest to S & W. More atop trees in mornings? No rain evening. 20 October 1965. No rain night, but overcast morning. Heard calls to S. of rest house. On slopes to S. I saw 3 (1 jnr.). Walked to top of fire tower (arrived 10:30); cloud bottom 100' above. / To SSE at edge forest (edge plantation), 6 (2 juns.), 3 being in low tangled veg., about three 10' high, 20 yds. from forest edge, + 2 ads. in tree at edge. (3 seen same area last evening.) I swept forested slopes with telescope. Saw 9 in gp. on near side road, near Lito River; many mounts rec- essory before seeing full number. Also to SWW, nvr. side rain, 1 adult
