C. Koford Roford 28 Colobus abyssinicus 11 October 1965 Kibale Forest, Toro, Uganda 1.7 W., 5 ad. + big juv., resting in trees, 3 in close bunch. [Ref] + on bd A. Kieti reported: at first monkey hidden, but soon came into space - heard Oltie (tree A), where fed, jumped about. Soon went E. 100' into tree B = subod of (rook like jumps). In that tree 2 or 7, one smaller than other; "seen came later; when eye" or, the largest & apparent dominant one, stopped first time he arrived tree B, another ad. or to him & groomed. Once adult & chased subod of out on branch. "Seen or" rested, lying in branch; juv. or (smallest juv.- about 1-2 yr.) to him, pulled at his cars & head, & soon ad. or up, & both in play fight, nuzzling w. bared teeth, clutching shoulders. An ad f (pregnant?) to top tree B, where 3-4 other crowded around her, prob. to groom; with 9 yr. & juv. to tree B' (S. of B), & soon others came over, but seen or stayed high in tree B (control leader or?). When or juv. to tree B' (?) to an adult or & was groomed. Later, leaving tree B' for B, 9 (4?) first; then 9 followed closely by juv. 9, then others, including an ad. or & a juv. in the B'. The mother w/ & inf. stayed fairly long. End of obs. Overcast but bright; calm. 12 October 1965. Last eve after rain; rest in tree A on Problem Rd; this morning 10+ in this tree. Girls saw 10 or, 3 or + juv., to N. of or on Bridle Rd.; probably the 13. They also 2 ad. or or near 1.1 E, and at 1.5 E., "stump tailed" or alone in tree. / Rain midday. 1530, stutzer,occas. sprinkle. I walked S. on road. Tree A nr. Bv Rd, seen in tree A (Celtis), doubtless the same brown or gp. At 1.55 E., I saw same 1/2 hr. later "stump tail or alone on 30' high dead branch, resting. To 2.14 & bore N, & at 1.6 W. saw 9 or 10 (2 juv.), rather wary gp. (the 1.4W. gp?). There in Celtis, 4 started to flee when I stood 50 yds. from tree in open.
