Colobus abyssinicus

27 September 1965 Kibale Forest, Toro Uganda
and lettr gr. first. Ad.♂ desc. limb 6' to 2' from ♀; his
penis (flesh color) was erect for 5+ sec. Juv.3(yr.-est.)
to ad.♀ and ground her; then reverse. Two mifs. wrestled
+ but playfully, zebra-like. Ad.♂ gr.♀ briefly. Other
ad.♂ sat quietly 1' from ♀ w. inf. ♀♀ grooming much. ♀
gr. ad.♂, which then lay prone. ♀ w.inf. 6' to another ♀ and
groomed her. Time of resting + grooming; no feeding. A
few raiders 10/15. ♀ to ad.♂, which crouched & she ground
him. (Apparent chirup cries Yr mile E.; no react. Colobus.)
Juv.(2-yr.) held one inf. near betw. his lines as if in
mating. (Imms.= 3 inf., juv.2, juv.3♂, subad.♂.)
Carla K. saw C.loduis ascend tree; C.alys. looked nervously
toward it (but I approaching in grass). C.lb. sat 1' from
a C.q., which soon moved up; C.lb. moved up too, & after
a couple of moves sat in former place of the C.alys. But
all example giving way to Colobus. | 1400, 100 yds.W. of
Bridham's NE corner, 4 ads.+2 inf., with 3 C.loduis in
same tree. 100 yds.E. of corner, 5 (incl.ad.♀;
1 juv.; 3yr.juv.♂) in
small-leaved Celtis. 1500, usual 7 ads. at 1.2E./1505,
1.4E., 4+inf.(ad.♂, subad.♀, ad.♀, ♀w.inf.), and at
least 3 C.loduis within 200 ft. Rain showers. |
1735, 100yds.E. of Bridham's Road 0.1, 12+incl.juvs.seting
leaves vigorously; apparently brand "A" (=13). In Celtis
and Olea (their foliage; eat?). | 1740±, 1.2E gp.5 ads.sat
tiny new Celtis leaves. 1.35E., ♂, 3♀, 1inf.again. 1.95E;
usual 5 ads.(w..limb tail ♂) in 3 tree, spread 80yds.-constant
location. 2.2E.; 5 ads.+inf.at site(mostly Celtis) where group
