Colobus abyssinicus
24 August 1965. Kibale Forest, Toro, Uganda
[reciprocal groom]
groomed od. (4?); then lay on side & ? gr. him. One of us approached to
[alarm]
50 yds., 30' below, & gr. descended, alarmed. Juv. taken to chest by
ads. & carried down. /0935, km. 6 on forest rd. to S., ad. of, juv.(3
yrs.?), ad. (4?), in same tree as seen 22 Aug. /0938, came before road
camp, saw more in 1/2 mile of treetops. Not; 1/2 clouds. /0945,
ridhams jet., ad.w. bleedinf. + about 3 in tree; in alarm descended
to lower level (dense veg.). Nearby, 3 ads. together in branch
(tree [br photo]); possibly same gr. /0957, halfway up ridham
road, to E. saw 3d+od.; 1 juv. (3?). Ad. groomed od. / Back at km.6,
about 12:40, 4 adults low (15'?) in tree where seen earlier, in
wet rain. Some sat in rain w. head low forward, as when
doin rain (C). / about 5:30pm, in path tall forest 1/2mi.
E. of Kanyawara Forest Sts., saw 1 or 2 groups. An adult came
out on bare limb of dead tree high over road, perhaps to look
at me. Apparent second group, 300 yds. distant, seen by Riff
and counted as 13 (no info. identified). Blues seem most
common here, but redtail present; & hornbills, turacos. We
heard calls, gurgling, repeated about 6 p.m., + these might
have been Colobus. (Ridham said we call toddlers). Also many
other unidentified calls, possibly some of chimpanzee. / Mr.Mizza
reported seeing 2 or groups in short (1 ft.) grass near Kyagava
(in Lake Murchwamba).

250 yds. E. of road nr. top tree w. 1/4 dead branches.
28 August 1965. 0930, at least 4 in tree w. few loose about
200yds. SE of corner airstrip nr. K-6 sign on road. Redtails
