C.Koford also see macacus Owenus Species Account Colobus abyssinicus 1 [6 of 40] E.Africa Mawenze 6, Toro,Uganda 20 August 1965. 13 mi. ESE Kyenjojo Mawenze Saw 3 in broad leaf tree, about 40' up, 200 yds. N of highway in broken second growth forest. Easily seen w. naked eye while driving. The first I have seen in wild. 21 August 1965. Kibale Forest, 7 mi. E. Ft.Portal,Uganda Wm. Bridhan, of Kigani tea estate, said now sometimes saw to ground because of disturbed nature present forest. About 6:30pm I saw 2-3 groups + heard their calls at E edge of his tea field. High in trees + most of them plainly visible. Largest gr. I saw was 9. Bridhan said sometime 30. Beautiful leaps, w. long hair apparently giving parachute effect. (P did not discern red colour; prob. misident. or mang abey. Kingston, D.F.O., said a black form with red brown shoulders about 20 miles out from Ft.P. to W.). P thought evening best time to see monkeys. Always along that road up to his estate, he said. 100t yds. 22 August 1965. At 0908, to E of road at K-6, mixed land of about 10 Colobus ab. + Cercopith. mitidatus (red tail, spot nose). Two adults with black infant, (gray lumber region (rather than white)). [juv.?] 3 juvs. med size, 6 ads. about 40' up, in wood to thin foliage, broad leafed trees, at edge elephant grassland. || One ad. w. inf. Red juv. (gray lumber) mr., + this one (sit?) carried inf. then or ventus, 3' below ad. (mother?). A slightly large juve came. [transfer of infant] Then an adult, which took inf. + ran 5+ yds away, leaving first ad. w. 2+3 yrs. (?) immus., which did not follow. (The other inf. gr. by adult, while 2-3 (?) yrs. juve. 20' distant in same tree. | Redtails within 10yds. of colobus at times; I saw no interaction. | One colobus ate compound leaf, chew-
