C. Koford Mangabey Cercocebus 14 September 1965. Kibale Forest, Toro, Uganda First seen. See Colobus badius notes. Saw 6+. 15 September, 1965. Mi. 5.5, nr. Mpanga R.; saw 4♂ and 3 females in trees. 21 September 1965. I saw 2, one a ♂, below several Col. badius in bare - looking 90' tree at N. edge Bridson's tea field. There [14 Sept.] first mangabeys seen in area except nr. Mi. 5.5 m. Mpanga R. birds They bit bark from 3" diam. branches, (K2), apparently using lower incisors - I did not see Colobus do this. Birds did not strip lengthwise, so perhaps on dead branches. Several branches bored for a few feet, possibly by monkeys. | 1040, mi. O. + E., one about 10' up in big lucuma. I approached as fast to 15 yards before it slowly moved away; apparently alone (near K-6 area). 25 September 1965. 1700, 4 in tree forest edge tea about 200 yds. N. of Bridson's house, 10-20' apart. Colobus badius within 50 yds. of them. 26 September 1965. 0815, saw 2 in tree edge forest at edge tea field, to N. of Bridson's house. Both Once bit at bark 3" limb, Celtis and Olea (?), whose limbs already bored of bark. /1605, 300yds. N. of Bridson's house, one 40' up in forest edge tree held 2"x3" piece bark & sat by 3"x10" stripped trunk downwntree (Celtis prob.), Broke off chunker bark w. teeth. Cercopith. + Colobus not seen treat bark. 1815, mi. 5.6, 5♂ to W. nr. Mpanga R., & 5+♂ max 200 yds. 5. One carried inf. This is best area for mangabeys along Kogwa SM rd. 10 October 1965. Kanyawara area, 4.8 miles into Kibale Forest from ranger sta., 70+ in 2 tree (Olea?) w. new terminal leaves, 30' up.
