C. Koford Pan paniscus 6 September 1965 Kibale Forest, nr. Ft. Portal, Tornganda. Near Nyigoto R. bridge in road S. of Kogera Samuel, about mi. 3.5, I saw adult and half grown about 25' up in 50' tree, 100 yds. E. of road. There a separate timber P., + when we started to get out of car they quickly descended. | This is same area where Carla saw one chimp about a week earlier, + where A. Meyzan saw one over a twig (within ½ mile to S.). Bridham said had not seen one nr. Kigomi tea estate for about 4 mos. Forest warden at Bulutoli said often seen near main Ft. Portal road to Kampala road nr. Mpango R. (actually E. of county line). 21 September 1965. In morning men reported seeing near NE corner of Kigomi tea estate (W. Bridham), + Bridham said heard them. But later we visited area + saw a hand row. Small patch tall forest near stream there, + Colobus olype, + Looliie present. 27 September 1965. Rain showers about 11 a.m. I drove down Bridham's Road, + 100 yds. from Kogera SM road saw 3 ads. well across road 50yds. ahead of me, E. to W., and under their herbs + shrubs. Last had lighter hair on lower back as if shedding. A few soft grunts in shrubs, but did not immediately climb trees. I left + drove up road 15 min. later; one was 20' up tree + descended as car approached. Then bunked roots for 2/3 minutes. 7 October 1965. Along highway to Kampala, about ½ mi. E. of county line, walked up short dirt road and saw many clear footprints in dried mud, evidently made within 24 hrs. mmv Knuckle Knuckle prints clean. Apparent adult, + only one size. Foot cannot open due from logging.
