C. Koford 9 Colobus badius 28 October 1965. Kibale Forest, Toro, Uganda back at forest edge, gp. 5 a+ to s. (part of orig. 10?). Pridham's form -- stream forest first 10 O 5 mixt O 10 05 C.Path (300 tyds. long) O 10 Tea Nw 1520, near Chimp path by stream; 10 (incl. 2 jws.) + or - 2 inf.s (carried), & probably 15 or more. Much jumping & most. hard to keep count. Seen to grab single branch w/ hardts in landing, rather than sprawling on mass of foliage & branches. About 40' up, in open to mod. foliage. 30 October 1965. Saw one within 50' of 3 C. olivis at 1.7W. Tree at 2.1 E., where once I photo'd 2nd w. hornbill in apparently now leafless tree, now moderately leafed out - got tiny new leaves! 2 November 1965. About 1030, at W. edge swamp at Dainill Rd. O.8W., about 40. At least 3 inf.s carried, + 5 larger inf.s (red- cranes). A redtail sat alongside on; possibly qv. by C.b. By 1050, seul of gp. 50 yds. separate, to SE nr road, & at least 2 C.olivis near them (10yrs.). At least 21 apparent adults. 17 within 20'sphere centering in dead messy 20'much branched tree at edge swamp. 1058, counted 39 incl. inf.s., w/ 2 C.olivis and 2 redt. at SE edge, + one redtail in same tree and among 15+ C.badius, + jnr. C.b. rubbed against redt. in passing. (The C.olivis gp. at N'SW edge = 6.) 1106, spread about 100 yds. total. / One carried 2'strip (Typha? leaf?) in mouth or clind then branches & leaped; ate at it, + at leaf another grabbed as if to take leaf. Others held single green tree leaf in hand and ate at it, as ice cream cone. Many descended to level 'settoils' at times, occas. dropping straight down to ground. One ate at 0 fruit (comm) of Carapa?
