Alouatta palliata
October 27, 1956 Barro Colorado I.s., C.Z.
at 8 a.m. a group of 5 100 yds. NNW of 1924 Building,
apparently 07, 2 min., 2 others (90?). One min. look
with two larger for several many minutes, but later
two min. marking one larger one. all had dots in
neck, suppurating. Some scratching of hot swellings.
They plucked Cecropia leaf stalks, ate stalks, let leaves
fall. I took some photos with 12'½" lens, lensflex, 3¼ x
4¼". Male watched closely two Celus below, 100' away.
July 26, 1956 Carl Bettemeyer notes. 5+ in fig tree
base hill nr. TB 5.5, probably eating figs (almost
eat). 10 a.m.
August 4, 1956. 3 large ?♀ with large young on rocks.
9 total, 10 a.m., BL 14.3. at 12:15 p.m. 12 in some
tree, including young.
November 10, 1956. In mid afternoon two groups of about 5
on S SE side clearing near 1924 Bldg. One group had 2
¼ gram with it. In holes & other trees. Apparently eaters.
December 6, 1956 Several in 4 near a large Ficus at N.
side of SM ½. Many fig scraps dropped. Figs green,
½ to ¾" diam.
December 11, 1956. At least 4 in same Ficus at 8 a.m.
December 13, 1956. Two at least in Ficus 100 yds. from above.
December 29, 1956. Two near AVA 7. One (young or?) came close,
a down to 20'sabove 2 boys, broke off sticks, & defected.
January, 15, 1957. Near TB 10 saw 4, one about half grown
with apparent mother, all laying in near-bare treetops.
16 January 1957. At least 4 seen in tall fig nr. ST 16.
