Colobus (Procolobus) badius
14 September 1965 Kibale Forest, Toro, Uganda
& ind. 2 w. largish infs. /1300, mi. 1.2, w., one fed ur.
5 C. alyissimius on lower tree. /1800, nr. Seliteli house,
or fed some brush as seed Col. alyss, within 6' at X.
1845, same one 70' up dead stil w. 4 Col. alyss,, well
after sunset. 6:58 p.m., it bounced some on branch; & 4 C.
alyss.. moved from perch, + redact took the place. It
set within 6' of C. alyss. at slightly lower level; about 7pm
jumped into nearly leafed tree.
17 September 1965. One fed 100' from several C. alyssimius in tree
nr. Budham Rd. (0.2) about 1145. /About 1740, mi. 0-1.3, large +
smaller barked N. (W. side road) thru trees rather readily; it appears. They
seem to jump up when crossing gaps, rather than just out. /1900,
Budham road mi. 1, 200 yds to NW, 8 incl. 2 juven. play. In
fine branched twiggy broad tree w. little foliage. Soon saw 13
spend 100 yards in 3 trees, feeding very actively - much more active
at this late hour than Col. badius & alyss.
18 September 1965. 0840, at least 7 in 3 trees in area where
seen last eve. One ground other. Fed on small green distillory
(aufcent)
by pulling branch to mouth. One small juv., 6' from adult. /
20 September 1965 0850, mi. 1.15, 3 adt + 10 juven. to W - 0815,
2 about 200 yds. N. Budham's Rd. /0850, at least 4ad. +
2 juvs. to E. road at 1.25. Occasional high squeals, or sounds
like small dog barking - no Col. alyss. - like sounds. By
0915, appeared about 20 or more. Jumps move much, back
& forth, not progressing only one way. Finally proceeded to
5, in rough succession, & I counted 12 with infants carried.
