Macaca fuscata 30 May 1966 Koshino, Miyazaki-ken early among yrlngs - Y. says typical of morning: 2-3 lit, wrestled, climbed after each othr in bushes, dangled, dropped. or 2 had clear cran melt (leakdown). / 2 youngish od.4? pregnant. Y. said 7 yrs. old and pregnant for first time. (Retarded devel.? ). He also said vaginal bleeding not seen outside mating season - significant in view high no. non-pregnant ??. I saw or/ mount crim. (3 yr?) and then lie on side, & crim. groomed him. Y. said or/ teeth much worn, so biting by him is little punishment. Y. seems to be best informed of all the private people in Japan; good man. 7 June 1966. Kinkazan, Miyagi-ken, Japan Now vegt. in full leaf. Warm, humid. Below area of Forest Cabin, a few soft loose droppings on trail, & I found 3 in first 400 m. to E. of Cabin. I to Cabin Pass about 12:30 and on to S. on ridgetop, reaching hilltop above Sansho Pass 1350. along S. ridge trail I found 3 spots fresh sloppy droppings, w. leatrupe working in them. Heard & saw no monkeys, so look N. to Cabin Pass (1420) and layd. 1450, heard White call and saw 2 adults descending from N. ridge, just S. of summit, down canyon to SW, as if disturbed by people above. I stopped & waited, 150 yds. from monkeys. From time to time 1 or 2 more descended, and I saw at least 9. These include:
