Koford 23 Macaca fuscata 13 May 1966. Kinkazan, Miyagi-Ken, Japan at ground. Then at 1530, or 5 yro. old?, on ground in Miscanthus on S. side of W. ridge, no cost. Climbed Cestrum (?) + sat 10' ups. alone. 14 May 1966. Walked 0630-1230 in marshy yam., & saw 2. (usual one of which) 0729, N side of summit about 400 M level, or od. in 3 m shrub, earing new green leaf tufts (about 1/5 secs.). Straight stiff L dq. III (a II?), I+IV missing perhaps. Watched at 100 M. 0727 climb- ed higher, soon lost. Broken new foliage lower on ground; 2b Fagus? Alone. Then at 1140, W. Colin Canyon, 200 m. below pass, od. or tree branch, resting. Whined a few times, but no alarm call. Alone. Watched at 100 M. Slight rest (a start melt?). Red face; tester ups. Climbed higher, & away. I now saw in trees than before? To eat new leaves? I did not see groups. 17 May 1966 Kinkazan W. Walked up W. Colin Trail. 1230, 100 m. E. of pass, now large adult, min. and ost. 3 yro., & or ost. 4 yro., on ground on sidehill. Then slightly alarmed uphill and walked 5. upslope toward hilltop, when Ralph found them a little later. About 1430 I to hilltop (S. ridge, S. of Colin Pass) and we heard much squealing, as if min. being thwarted a little, on W. slope in area thick tree cover. We walked 5. along ridge; heard other calls. About 1600 I descended cautiously down to W., within toward repeated ^ shot call, & saw od. nun in rhododendron clump 50 m. from me. Difficult to see much area at one because of foliage, tho many open sites under trees. About 1655 met R., who had gone downlope to S. of me. He had seen 4 W. infants, and about 4 apparent immrs. at once. 1700, heard single repeated call ^; about high C, every 10t sec., & briefly saw adult. This
