Koford 18 Macaca fuscata 23 April 1966 Kaizaki, Shimokita, Aomori, Japan Found male & then. 2A, aen novo. Buds turgid, pale tips, elong. 10%. 1A, juglans; new leaves in bud form to 4 cm. long. 1B, juglans; new leaves in bud form to 3 cm. 3A, A. palmata, buds elong. 100%, to 6 mm. 4A buds turgid, sleeky, light green, 20% elong. 5A, 1000+ leaves to 6 cm (w/d) 8 cm w/ pistilos. 6A, buds elongated to 3 cm but not burst. 7A- buds turgid, not elongated; 12 mm long. 7B Buds turgid only. 8A, buds bunting, 100+ on upper branch to 5 cm long; lower branches to 3 cm long. 8B, on 2 upper limbs 100+ buds burst, 4 cm long; lower limbs, buds elong. to 3 cm. 9A- not found. 10A, leaves closed, to 2 cm; flower gone. 10B, a few flowers too. / No males seen to feeder area all day, & none seen on slopes a ridge to W. Apparent recent feeling of lack of Dendropanax on ridge to W. Wispy, starlike clouds. Kinkazan, Miyagi-ken 26 April 1966. Arrived noon. Trees here since 21. I walked thence to Road about 50 m. aasl. Hotel. Near shrine, cherries in full blossom & 50% leaves. Along road, Carpinus (Many trees - to 2 cm., not burst) crates buds elong. & many burst, about 3 cm. new growth? Alnus tree + shrubs, leaves to 4 cm. Betulae - buds elongated 300% but still only 1 cm. long or less; essentially turgid but not burst. Aralia stellata - leaves open to 10 cm. long. Viburnum awabuki - 50% leaves, 1 cm. long. Amor pfiq Rosa multiflora, buds 3 cm long now. As general view, about 1/4 deciduous, Betulae 0. Castanea - few buds, but some burst, + leaves to 2 cm. (but many old dead buds; decided tree). / Near Forest as1 Calvin (170 m.?); Tagged Juglans, 76" dbh, lower parts new pistilos + leaf 20" growth to 6 cm long; at top tier, buds elong. but fruits not separated yet. W. side 50-100m. as1
