w/n or far ridge, to N.
6 April 1966. Clear, calm; no ice. With Tenota walked W. from Forest Cabin at 0830 climbed stile at crest - alarm call 50m. to
W. & ad. # saw. We stopped, watched, soon saw at least 7, incl.
2 old F F, one with tiny dark infant clutched to breast (alive;
turned head up). Cool.
Lesser brown since April 1. An anim. (fyr?)
mv. othr ad. #, 10m. up a tree trunk (no foliage). Watched about
200 m., the monkeys aware of us / On slope 3 mins. (yearlings?)
gently wrestled & romped. One, sitting, leaned back against stump
as if to scratch. Occurs one to 2 m. up a trunk. No obs. mv. them.
One # sub. ad. - dark shdn; narrow bare pink perineum. / Oriso.
heard shot "glunk," saw'd timer - prob. not alarm. 0910, about 3
yrs. Together ran across slope in dry leaves, going W. / An mm.
2-3yr
walked down a slanting fallen log on ground; stopped, crouched,
looked -> us 200m. away. (Apparent crest ~). 0920 adult
walked same route, along top of fallen log - common path
way. Deriv from area; open Fagus - Carpinus slope. 0938,
farther E., 4 mins. (3 or all yearlings) one on fallen log.
One worked up & pulled down branch tip & nibbled at it. A big
ad. # (leader?) walked across slope above them; one mm. skied
away from him (at a start from him); a second walked within
1m. of #. The gp now 300 m. E. of pose. An mm. in tree
descended slowly, met another on ground, & the 2 ran off together.
1005, # sub. ad. & mm. into creek bottom, going N., # walking on
fallen log top. 1008, slight alarm at observers at 150m.; they led
to E. up slope - #, yrs., 2 yrs., ad. # (?), all in succession walk:
