Macaca fuscata
4 April 1965
In open Focus, found shed adult M. fuscata; old.
saw none. To summit + N. long ridge to 1720 p.m.; saw none.
5 April 1965. Searched separately & saw a few males SW of sum-
mmit. Cold, windy; saw ice morning. / Teroda showed me leaf-
less vine-covered brush (in canyon E. of ridge E. of Forest Cabin), when he
said 2 monkeys etc (droppings near). About 8'; speeding! / Low in
canyon just S. of big ridge E. of summit (canyon of E. Colin), many
dry droppings in an angle of granite 8-10' high, about
200' up slope - a resting or sunning spot? > Rock also dropping,
or near many granite boulders in this canyon. / I walked
to summit & en route saw at least one on boulder in Miscanthus
area. Alvis on ridge W. of summit, about 300 m. level- I thought perhaps

but saw none; turned back 5. 1000'; again at summit 1050.
Down ridge to E. 300±m.; soil low shrubs, grazed, speeding,
with branches barbed by teeth - at knots, & or small breaks
down to 1 cm. a less down in tops - probably monkeys.
(Valiate buds, stubby). Perhaps stunted by monkeys. Most of
same species, while others untouched. / Atop mossy boulder
under Focus Carpenter, 50 yds. N. of Heaven Tower, 30+ droppings-
sitting place? (Teroda saw gp. pass near here once.) / Returned
to Forest Cabin 1310; departed 1430, & again to canyon below Heaven Tower,
to summit, & back down in area SW of summit. (Teroda said
saw about 5, apparently including 2 juveniles, this canyon about
1630-1700. Monkeys frightened, to next canyon N., & when be to ridge they:
