Macaca fuscata
25 February 1966 Kinkazan, Miyagi-ken, Japan.
5 at once, incl. 2 growing pairs & one ad. ? (red faced; appeared pregnant). Walked towards throst at about 100 yds distance they started off a few at a time, walking slowly. Three more came up to ridge top from W., one being ad. ?, offt one a ? w. a juv, or juv. The jius. estim. 2 and 3 yrs. old. So at least 8 here, not incl. a limping ad. ?. They went to canyon bottom & then too left appeared uphill atop main ridge NW. fence, walking N.; shiwa one into 20' up; one sat atop boulder. We departed to Okama.
Azuma collected some droppings. Also piece of shrub appear. bel eaten, appe. by monkeys - Azuma said it was Isobebeion obovatium (Euphorbiaceae); about 2 cm. diameter, trunk 10' tall.
