Honshu) Kusodamari, Shimakita, Japan. 23 June 1965 About 2 p.m. walked up wooded valley of K., right N. of Kusodamari turn, with S. Azuma + C. Nagel. Beans in small plate near bottom. Newly cut trail. About ½ mile up came to 6 x 10 shade in shade large Thujopsis or Cryptomeria tree, + then met Masaro Otake of JMC. Some monkeys feeding from flat box of wheat, + others nearby. Some ad-7 Medialanturia crowns of 6 four conspicuously molted. Saw 8 at once, including 2 ad. 7+, + 2 ?? w. infants. One letter within 20' plus at turnin, + 07 charged near me (6-8') when I tried to eat apple. | tree in canyon: Thujopsas, Camus, Acer, Fagus, Prunus, Chestnut, other. Some chestnut in flower.
