Koford 52 Journal 27 May 1966 and Kyoto, where conferred w/ Mr. Suzuki, Sugiyama, Miyoshi, Itani at Univ. Then on train to Kosho. Furuya joins me. 28 May 1966. Arrived Miyazaki 1345. Bus to Kojima, arriving 1645. Short visit to island w/ R. Yoshida. In Troop of 59, one birth so far. Both seem a little early this yr. at said localities, apparently. Some on Koshoima w/ crow nestled. 29 May 1966. With Furuya by taxi to Toimiseki, but did not find monkeys. Rain and wind early morning. Returned to Koshima and again to island. The concrete lab building on island first complete now. / S.A. reported birth Koizaki gpo. 5 May 20 (4 Tons). 30 May 1966. Short visit to island. Then bus from Kosh town Tokyo where arrived 31 May. Evening, on to Sendai. 24-5 May Half overnight at Kirihoya. Heard monkeys 5. Miyagawa but saw none. To. Kikazara, Miyagi Prof. 7 June 1966. After days overcast, foggy, drizzle, clearing. Leaves fell. Magnolia and Camus in conspicuous flower. Phodendron haemepfi blossoms mostly gone, while B. japonica in bloom. I saw 10 monkeys, but not whole troop (so few mins), including infant. Eating leaves Symplexis and Berberis. 9 June 1966. Another fine day, but found rommelge by noon. Returned to Sendai. 10 June 1966. To Tokyo to confer w/ NSF, Ajumo, and JMA (meteorology). Returned to Sendai. Most days overcast now, but cool.
