hair of man excited in alarm, & also hair of lots of metatarsal gland.
Saw 1gp. of 3 pt. buck w/ 2 spiked bucks. Japanese say when deer is
lured of Ardea (spiny buck), antlers fall (March ?). / Mr. Akazawa
dog interested in monkey & rubs water at shrine, away at present.
Crows common & noisy. Scil species sparsous seen, 1 a green
woodpecker. Apparently no squirrels here. Saw av litter; cons ants,
26 February 1966. (Stayed at shin nyogan last nite). Offred for non-
days & encountered groups near ridge just N + NW of road. Saw at
least 8 (see M. fuse, noted). Returned to Shinmori & Sendai, where visit-
ed Dr. Schlangen (vc Ruinide, geologist)

and took to Tokagoyana. Mr. Naito, USIS photographer, accompa
anied me. Visited Dr. Muira & gp. 5, now caged in large enclosure
but still 10+ (all 77 sawe 1 ad 4) outside.
Dr. Kawamura & N. Kayama
also with me. Band in pen had 3ad. 777, many f & m young. Most
trees in enclosure dead & bark stripped. upper party the conifer in
(some pines larked).
good condition. Tall bamboo green leaves. Monkeys seem well fed &
healthy. Leader had split R ear, red- faced. Muira said about 79
inside, & occas. one comes in over fence, about 10 wires mesh w.
electric wire top"]. Cage closed Oct. 1, 1965. Kayama arrived for
studies Oct. 8. K. had recently collected sample vegetation
& started to dry them. An NHK television man made brief film
also visited area of troop A, where Kayama working mostly.

known part of band A, now said to be split into 3 groups.
