near Bayup Creek; enthusiastic aviator. Spent night at Dryandra and saw "kangaroo net" manipial. Returned to Perth. Flew to Melbourne & visited Dr. A.J. Marshall at Monash Univ. Then to Canberra, when stayed six days at CSIRO wildlife headquarters. Spent most time with Ken Myers. Took me trip of 3 days to the outback north of Broken Hill (Cobar area) and saw kangaroo, emus, wedge-tailed eagles. We shot rabbits for three one night; all night job to get about 30. Stayed with Geoffrey Sharman in Sydney a few days (he joining U. of NSW). Then flew to Brisbane. Later train to Gladstone, and boat to New Island, when stayed two to three. To Lat. & saw many nesting green turtle, noddy's + shearwaters. Returned to Brisbane, rented car, & drove to Lamington forest near Beira - Berra - a unlike rain forest not really Neotropics, with few Eucalyptus. Rain & cold. Descended to Gold Coast area for beach swimming. Then back to Brisbane & flew January 28 to Hong Kong. Jan. 30 on to Japan, when landed at Osaka.
