C. Koford Journal 17 November 1965 Mr. Nanyuki, Kenya and shot only an oryx. I saw about 4 p.m. at about 500 yds. a large leopard, in stalking walk at edge brush in grass. Probably came toward oryx carcass or descending vulture. About 20 was in tree or ground near carcass by time we reached it, perhaps 20 min. after shot. Peter went after the leopard but did not get a shot. 18 November 1965. Still raining, so proceeded to Nairobi. Visited A. Hartshorn in vet school (attractive modern buildings), as well as Dr. Mante from Davis, Dr. Udall from Ft. Collins / Dr. Paul Martin from Univ. Calif., at Leakey's lab. 19 November 1965. More visiting. Ticket & inoculator business. 20 November 1965. About 10 rock hyrax in pen at vet school, mr. Dept. Zoology. Sayles (sp.? ) studying them. 21 November 1965. Sunday. Went with Leslie Brown & Alain Delle to visit site crowned eagle, martial eagle, & other nests near Embu. 22 November 1965. Departed Nairobi. Camped nr. Naroga, to south! 23 November 1965. Drive to Chusha. Visited John Owen. Then drive toward Serengeti & camped nr. Ngorongoro. 24 November 1965. To Seronera, Serengeti Park. Camped. 25 November 1965. To Olduvai Gorge. Thence left Ngorongoro and camped nr. Lake Manyara. 26 November 1965. Drove toward Nairobi. Stayed at Hopercroft ranch near Athi River 27-28 November 1965. Stayed at Tigoni primate center near Kenure. On 28 (Sun.) climbed Mt. Longonet & viewed crater. 29-31 November 1965. Fort stayed at Hopercroft ranch (Kenplains). Daw-Thomson gazelles, Grants, griffes, deer, jumping hares.
