C. Koford 33 Journal November 3, 1965. Kibale Forest, Toro, Uganda 10/10 Clear morning; alt. status by noon. Good survey of mangays. November 4, 1965. Sunny after fog lifted. Good survey morning. Located "drink tail," now w. infant in gps. (C. abyssinicus). Drive to 5.8+ return; now logging to E. there. Walked tractor path to W. from 3.8 + saw no monkeys in 1/2 mile midday. Saw C. d'hesti again. Forest Mgt.- talk w/ B. Kengeter. Cut near Bridgtons about 1959. About 6 (again 10 yrs. later?) yrs. after do strip count main comm'l species (4%?) + use to judge treatment (felling, go thinning, girdling, poisoning). Shot live trees like Trees not poisoned. Poison by spray on bark, girdle + spray, remove 12" bark, etc., depending on sp.; 2 + D + 24, 5 T. (Changes Cutting now about (now more sp., even not hewn with cut.) sewed 22 trees/acre; goal is 40. Formerly cut less. Present cut about 1/2 of standing tree (of coffee size). K. things will result in even aged closed forest of the 15 valuable sp., somet. all on single area, but prob. 1 or 2 (Neotoma & Fagaropsis?) mostly. K. said V. Reynolds published that forest dept. poisoning cheese (food?) trees, but K. says V.R. did most studies in heavily poisoned area. / humming flock of 200 n + storks (Cicmia nigra ?) roosted to S. over road, 1000 +/- up. white bellies; red legs extends beyond tip tail (black rectrices). Nov. 2 + today saw 2 birds in swamp by O.B.W. Brown; iridesce green on dorsal folded wings; red area top blue bill; near white line along join or skull. Error Date 1 day shed Nov. 5+6 - see Monkey Census sheet; when entered by mistake. p. 6 87" rain midday. November 6, 1965. Saturday. Walked along Numa Block forest road for 1 hr., to area damaged eucalyptus, Photosed, + returned. Saw C. alps, C. boduie, redtail, blue, mangalay in Numa block; last stripped bark. Good monkey food trail but many biting flies. Rain 12-600. Evening census banmilled food.
