Kampala, Uganda.
Dr. Delany told me that he had applied to Minister Internal affairs
for selecting gun permit for me & dept. zoo. Camped at Entebbe.
26 October 1965. Business in Kampala. Then drove to Fort Portal
and stayed at Kerugani tea estate.
Kibale Forest, Toro, Uganda
27 October 1965. Officials, & evening monkey census. Reloc-
at'd "snog tooth," "stumps tail," + some familiar groups of
Colobus alysiricus. Overcast but no rain.
28 October 1965. Sunny morning. A few Marabonía tree
their
now have long fruit pods. Nettles have large flowers. An
Erythrina tree, leafless w. red flowers when we arrived about Sept.
have become
), now fully leaved, w. no flowers; others of same sp. have
w. red flowers. Evening census day good.
29 October 1965. Heavy rain (1.87") night. Mr. Pridham said
area near estate logged about 10 yrs. ago, & that the forest patch
now on N W side of estate similar to that cut. Also, he said much poach-
ing of monkeys in area about 2 yrs. ago, natives using skins for
drums, bicycle seat covers, etc. | Stratus clouds a.m. Watched +
counted monkeys to 1030. Rain now.
30 October 1965. Light rain on & off most of day. Census of
monkeys evening. Tursior fed some Marabonía tree or Colobus
alysiricus, tho later.
1 November 1965. Sunday. Cumulus stratus morning. Rain
11 a.m. Monkey census evening. Few Marabonía flowers now;
many of their trees w. long pods dangling.
2 November 1965. Its watched qp. to+ C. loduie morning. Rain early aft. Evening
good census.
