Kibale Forest, Toro, Uganda.
Rolf & Keisti watched land crabs moving. D, brief survey on samuel road. Shrew muddy.
12 October 1965. Foggy morning. Read documents in office of D.F.O; kids watched monkeys moving. Watched dog rooster, & saw 3 chimpanzees. Rain afternoon.
13 October 1965. Drove to Entebbe & camped by L. Victoria.
14 October 1965. Visited Tennant & Rhweza in Game Dept. Dr Williams at Virus Research Centre - good base for operations w. labs, cages, monkeys, rick. Many showers.
15 October 1965. To Kampala. Visited Rawley, Delaney others at Molines. Visited Ministry Internal Affairs, Entebbe.
16 October 1965. Saturday, Visited Panella, Delany. Then drove to Jinja and camped edge golf course.
17 October 1965. Drove to Toro, thence to Mbale. About 20 miles before Toro, road passes thru a few miles of forest, said to include monkeys. Drove to Budolii and Busulani, takeoff place for climb to Elgon summit. Rain. Forest starts 1000' above highest pt. reachable by steep dirt road. Many shrunken people along upper road. Returned to vicinity Mbale & camped.
18 October 1965. Visited D.F.O. in office near Post office in Mbale. He gave permission to use rest house at Kaphwata, softwood plantation on NE side Mt. Elgon at edge forest. Drove thru (6.5 miles) on the mt. road toward Kenya. Pretty waterfalls over cliffs along way. Up & down dirt roads, muddy when wet,
