C. Koford 28 Journal 27 September 1965 (Mon) Kibale Forest, Toro Uganda Observed monkeys near roads morning. Crossed 1.0 to 2.1 eve. 28 September 1965. Still at Kidhoni's. Alto stratus overcast; showers 11 a.m. Saw 3 chimpanzees cross Kidhani's road. Watched monkeys along Samuel road. Up to 10 turacos in single coffee bush. 29 September 1965. Walked monkeys Kogoro SM road. 30 September 1965. Same! Toro Game Preserve, Toro Uganda 1 October 1965. Overcast rain morning. Departed Kingani estate 10:30 for Toro Game Preserve. Rain morning. Arrived 1:30 p.m. Saw Colobus alyps and Papio. Camped ½ mile downstream from Wera R. Bridge, at Buschbush site 50 yds. from edge; milled forest backing river. Heard lion, hyena. Saw waterbuck, boi, redhump in area. Shown in afternoon. Mosquitoes at night. 2 October 1965. Rainy morning, w. alto stratus overcast. Saw Papio's Colobus clyssinicus m. camps. Camp to the game lodge = 2.5 mi. Obs. some from area of lodge, when good patch riverine forest. Rain eve. 3 October 1965. Obs. near camp & lodge. Rain afternoon. 4 October 1965. Overcast. Obs. near lodge & camp. 5 5th October 1965. Same. No rain. To Kikele Forest, Toro 6 October 1965. Departed Toro Game Preserve & drove to Ft. Portal, then to Kingani estate (Mr. Bridham's). 7 October 1965. Evening obs. m. Kingani estate. 8 October 1965. Ft. Portal trips; car repairs. Evening obs. Uganda independence day. 9 October 1965. Corresp. & office work. Much rain afternoon. 10 October 1965. Sunday. Drove to Ft. Portal & 5. to Dera River, about 18 miles. Looked for monkey there. Then to Kanyawara forest station, + 5 mile into forest. Returned to Kingani Estate for night. From ranger's house at Kany- ware, .3 to first forest patch of 1.2 miles; then road thru alt. patches forest & grass until 3.5 miles for house, and .8 mi. in a small bridge.
