C. Koford 25 Journal 3 September 1965 Toro Game Preserve, nr Ft. Portal, Uganda Lion seen, + hyena close at night. Rain slant 4 a.m. + for a few hours after. Visited the hunting lodge, from where we saw 4 gaz. cobblers at me + her daughter, in river forest - good place for driver territorial census? Returned to Ft. P. + Selitili camps. 4 September 1965. Bridham left for Goro. Elephant said shot 3 mi. down road last night; we went to area + saw many tracks but did not find body. Camp walk. 5 September 1965. Sunday. With Antais Mujam, drove S. thru Kilohi Forest to Bud Bigodi. Patchen forest + elephant grass. Gazd once grazed, but grazing ceased because of rogans. The N. to Kigarama, S. to area of Korenda, where road passed be- tween 2 crater lakes. The slopes of crater mostly well for- ested. We saw no monkeys, but Mujam said he had seen dolobars, more than once, cross road nr. county line (Duru R.); a fair patch of forest here. Returned to Selitili camp. | Drop trap in woods nr. Bridham's road caught 1 mouse during day (KAK No. 1). | Unsuccessfully looked for carcass shot elephant. 6 September 1965. Camp jobs. Shopped in Ft. Portal. | Yesterday acquired 2 Chameleons taken nr. Kigarama. Still have large drat found in forest on Sept. 4; yesterday it gave birth to dead inf. (preserved). | In evening saw chimpanzee nr. Njyugata cross- ing, + ad. & w. yearling (?) bushbuck around nr. mile 5.0 on road S. of Kagera Saw Mill. | Good mix of white-throated monkey. [= L'Horst's guenon] 7 September 1965. Departed 6 a.m. + drove to Kampala. Left animals, visited in zool. dept., shopped. Camped nr. Entebbe at edge Lake Victoria.
