16 Aug heavy rain - short grass, old rock walls, worn out bell tracks, great contrast to Velcoba. Latter probably also wetter. 17 August 1963: Took off from plane today. Flight fairly direct over arid terrain with some lakes; small patches very scarcely in distance. Only Tankerville & Kay, the pilots, remain at Lurincova. Would Kniffen, ed of Panamaterrean, which publishes much info on Peru, roads, geography, & development. Good place for good info. 18 August 1963: Lurica, Peru. Packet opening to leave. Short visit with Jay Milling. 19 Aug 1963. Departed 0045 on Panagra fl. 30 to Panama, arriving 0430. Hotel Tricote Hotel & invited guests to P.R. / Kopshe, Aschenlon, Barodi, + I all think ascent on foot to Velcoba most preferable. Barodi volunteered to send men to start a route; they tried, built tandem along way. The searchers came came and walked in, with patrol to carry gear; a gear could be air dropped by commercial plane. Aside a vagrant from possibility of finding rare flora, much in this area, greatest value would be to many area appeared uninfluenced by man. Possibly free individuals plants, vegetable swelling, wells of effort breeding & invented.
