Herps - General July 19, 1956 B.C Island, Canal Zone. about 9 p.m. found Bufo near New Lab in grass & pressed it in formalin 9:1 (+ Na bicarb). August 23, 1956. Josh Forquette visited, looking voice of for true frogs. He recited Hyla allomerqata when described by Dunn. August 29, 1956. In evening with light saw 2 Caiman near shore within 1/4 mile dock. Also saw 2 evening of Dept. 1. All small. September 22, 1956. Took a tooth from top edge of shell of a turtle on trail (4" long shell). Turtle also had red group of slaggings on hind neck. December 8, 1956. During day saw 2 Bufo typhonius about 3/4" long & 2 anolis (?) about 1" long. These first young of their species noted. January 8, 1957. at BHI at foot tree saw apparent cool green snake about 2' long. Red || Black || Red markings. I saw another near Drayton 17 or Feb. 3/1957. 1 February 1957 Eggs of iguana with small embryo found dug out of hole on Slothia Is. Nuthmaning & saw several Catharites at the spot, probably eating eggs. Do they dig them up? Fertil when buried? 23 February 1957 The boys took 3 iguanas from Slothia Is. I found translucent white eggs twice size of chicken (= Caiman) eggs there, some lying atop ground, at mouth burrow in loose bar dail. Many toads. Black melter perch in tree on this island daily. 5 March 1957 apparent alligator eggs on Slothia Island.
