July 10, 1956 Barro Colorado Is., Canal Zone
Eugene Esermann pointed out to me that 6 nests in tall
tree 50yds. NW of New Lab were being used by oropendula.
This apparently late date of record for young in
nest.
July 25, 1956 No observations extensive but saw more at nests
today (in Ceiba 100yds W. of New Lab). One in Cecropia over
Barlow House in evening. //Later saw 2 nests entered.
August 2, 1956 Saw one enter nest at elatins, one perched aside nest.
August 11, 1956. None seen in area of this tree (the change in
fruiting may have had effect on distribution.).
December 23, 1956. Barely seen a head lately, but this mornng
one called in balsa 5. of Chapman House, flew to Schizolobium,
min, again called- bubbling sound.
January 4, 1957 About 7:30 a.m. heard near balsa 5. of Chapman
House. 5 flew across to W. to an almandra, perched, 4 soon flew to N.

2 more flew direct from balsa to join them. Mort seen since August.
January 13, 1957. About 7:15 a.m. saw 7 in jacaranda over
Test Table Bldg. Deep gurgling call. Flew to N. Not appear-
ext rest of day.
22 January 1957. Saw + head one at WNW & 1/2. Mr. Lester
says he saw one there during last four days. I heard a few
at midday about 100yds. NW of Test Table Bldg.
23 January 1957. Mr. Reusing said he thought one was trying to
start nest in Schizolobium over Test Table Bldg. at end of
branch with new foliage. Heard in area 100yds. NW of kitchen
during day. One calling from balsa 5. of Chapman House about
4 p.m.
