Koford 1 strigidae Pulsatrix perspicillata July 19, 1956 BC Island, Canal Zone. Dawson about 15' above ground under leaf canopy in dark woods 100 yds NW of New Lbl. about 6:40 a.m. A Monster near giving mot-mot-mot (not what we hear woof-woof-woof heard too far from bird watcher.) and deep double like coo. No owl voice heard. October 6 (about), 1956. In evening heard call of 6 low notes, 3/sec., push-push-push, of quality of shaken large plywood sheet. Repeated again & again, 100 yds. W. of New Lbl- About a week before heard similar calls in evening 200 yds SE of Chapman House, followed by higher & softer answer of 5 notes, both repeated again & again. This time I thought it might be a large frog tood. Could be large owl. October 31, 1956 at 5 a.m. one of same calling W. of New Lbls, Like shaking wooden ward latch + fork November 21, 1956 2 to 3 a.m. One (?) calling repeatedly in vicinity of Davids Yr., apparently high in trees. Little musical quality. Like knocking 5 or 6 times on panel of wood door, last 2 or 3 knocks being gentler than first 3. 3/sec. December 5, 1956. Heard again 100 yds. NW of Test Table Bldg., about 6 a.m., with apparent answering call. January 4, 1957.
