Okoford Strigidae Atheneetes. November 2, 1956 Barro Colorado Is., C.Z. Although this not repeated for B.C.I. Near SMI about 9pm a small owl (Otus otis size) apparently plain neutral gray below seen on vine over trail after whistling call heard. Single call, tremulous - especially in last bell. Rise then falls in even slur + ↓⁹ e. Possibly brought close by imitating. Not heard before by me. Audible 200 meter away at Chapman House as descending whistle. Pursued up and seized. December 29, 1956. Flushed a large one, gray backed, near Town. It flew down trail to S. and perched. Narrow white lines around eyes. Flushed about 11:30 am. = Pulsatrix January 4, 1957. Heard in evening and early morning to W.of 1952 Lab (if the words sounded one). I also hear Heard same whistling call as Nov. 2, to N. of 1924 Belly. 17 April 1957 I saw one perched on branch in open underbrush near Lardavelle Mtns., 2 mi. N Summit, C.Z.
