Tinamus major
7 May 1957
Barro Colorado Is., C.Z.
at 11 a.m. one flew away from near tree 20' from Davato trail
about 4:7. Then another left the spot, running in low-squirming
fashion. At base of tree between buttresses was a single greenish-blue egg almost hidden by dry leaves. No nest
structure. About 2:20 p.m. I returned & photographed the
site. Saw no tinamous, but 6' from nest was a snake
about 6 feet long. (Body mostly black with yellow
areas. Ventrally bright yellow including head. Head pointed,
d.v.: flat, black above, yellow below.)
