Birds - General
7 April 1957 Orchid Is., Gatun Lake, C.Z.
On side of island toward Cross Pt. heard Gould's
manaki, saw display, and a counting ground
3' x 2' cleared in leaves. A firecrown - the shape
given as bird darts from one perch to another,
+ a Bronx - chow type of vibrating sound made
with raised wings flopping fast. Chin feathers
protrude outward beard-like. Displays seen 1' to
6' above ground in dark forest 150 ft. from edge
lake.
20 April 1957 Near same site saw counting ground,
still perfectly cleared to bare soil, + one Gould's m. 100' away.
3 May 1957 Tavi parakeets now in flocks of 10+, some-
times in balsa (or seed) near Chapman House.

5 May 1957. Went up Chagres from Gamboa to Juan Mina.
Saw 30+ Tavi parakeets in mango tree at Juan Mina.
