C. Koford Birds - General 19 March 1957 Chapman House. Barro Colorado Is., Canal Zone 23 March 1957 at WMW 14ΒΌ a mealy parrot in the anttrail eating 2" long green fruit (almond-like bush, filsome range within, sticky juice). 26 March 1957 I saw a flock of approx. 100 hawks going over top of island heading NW. These pale underneath with possible dark band across end of tail. Broad-winged? About 50 Swainson hawks seen in another flock. A hot smokey day. 23 March 1957 Near Frijoles I saw two juvenile Jocoras with adult. Young were adult sized. Jocoras also common on Chagres River at NW side of mouth. [illegible] =Old Chichi House 3D March 1957 In evenings an owl called to N. of Alice House, aa ooo' aao'; hoots last one second with one second between. Sharp accent on second syllable. 2 April 1957. This call said by Alexander Wetmore to be Cicada nigrolineatus. I heard it again near Chapman House in early a.m. of 3 April. 3 April 1957 Alexander Wetmore said he saw a wood thrush near clearing. Last evening we saw a swift he called a taro Panyptila. In going around island we saw large reefs - breasted knife fish and bluefish on bank at tip Irose Pt. One flew into hole in bank. In Fuentes Estero there were new nests in shrubs in water, for 10+ yds. from shore. Wetmore said they were of Myzetetes. 6 April 1957 a dove nest (large doves) with nearly fledged young in tree 100+yds. from shore near N. end of Dacked Is. I took 35 mm. calm slide. Nest of twigs, 6' above water level on horizontal base of branch.
