C. Koford 1956 1957 Birds - General December 29 1956 Barro Colorado Is, Canal Zone Thamnophilus punctatus Cyanilaima [illegible] still commonly heard in forest and seen in deep forest (AVA trail). Saw a large owl with white marks around eyes near turn. Two Tityra feeding on [illegible] shrub fruits 50yds. W. of Test Toll Bldg. January 2, 1957. Crossing Frijoles to B.C. Is. saw 40+ [illegible] incl. females & some with white in front eyes (blue winged teal?). 1957 21-26 January 1956 In mist nets nr. Chapman House and 1952 Lol - I took 2 Florisuga, 1 Damophila, and 2 Tbeluanaia hummingbirds. Tried to keep in cages but all died within 3 hours. I put pills into sugar-water feeder to show bird was. One was put in large screened room, others in 1 ft. square wire cages. Testers all 2 1/2 mm. (2 mm. Damophila) in drain, & all 5 were [illegible]. leemmen 31 January 1957 ♀ taken 8 a.m. died in captivity in room. Lgst., ovum: 8mm., drain: 3 yellow carpaea lutea. looked like Amazila but still blue tail. Possible broad potato- mite in stomach. 4 February 1957 With Ernest Greenwalt & Mr. & Mrs. Redman Ward, Sue & I went by PC Launch "Runna" to Rebecca Is. in Pearl Island group. Hundreds of Fregata nesting in shrubs on rocky step shore. We took many photos. One group of about 60 white egrets in shrub trees 100 yds. up steep slope. Boobies flying nearby, & a few hundred pelicans perched, swimming, or flying. Large boulder shore with clear water, many snails & snails - a beautiful coast. (some) line. Fregate birds could be approached to 5 yds. without leaving nest. A few with blown up snail [illegible]. The
