C Koford 5 Birds - General November 24, 1956 Barro Colorado Is. Gnal Zone Much rain yesterday. Devil caught in net this mornig, so of course restricted activity yesturday. Took a Phlaithomnis superciliosa in net at edge water tank just W. of new lab., & a Rupitilamnus at same time. Did not band P. supercil. as foot too small. November 28, 1956 Robert Cushman Murphy here Today. He saw black tern, laughing gull, and 30+ lesser scaups on Lester Lake in crossing from Frijoles. Many small birds in blooming Scheijzoldrum (yellow), including tiny hummingbird. Took a Damophila julie panamensis in mist net near Chapman House Nov. 29. This first flock of ducks seen this fall, the rite seen within last four weeks. December 8, 1956 On Big Tree or Von Tyne trail saw a large hawk with black & white bars on wings & tail, with crest of white feather tipped with black, presumably Spizaetus melanoleucus. Large parrots in flocks 40 seen over clearing. @Crossing from Frijoles saw black tern, and raft of 50+ ducks. December 13, 1956. Saw 20+ scaups in crossing to Frijoles. a Sterna Chlidonias niger and 3 Sterna heinei seen too. December 18, 1956. The hummingbird feeders continue to give no results. Two are located within 6 ft. of Isertia in front of 1924 Bldg., but hummingbird feeds only at the real flowers on the shore. This bush reproduces fine and has born flowers continuously since July 1 or earlier. December 23, 1956 Heard building call of Bardynichus and saw in a top bar Scheijzoldrum; first seen recently. December 29 1956. One a two birds today & day visitor during past few days (Bardynichus) - the deep bulbling calls. The
