October 25, 1956
Canal Zone
9:30 to 10 a.m. Overcast but not raining.
October 30, 1956 Saw Barva Glorado (S), Canal Zone area
Saw about 2000 Cathartes in 20 minute from Frijola
area to over various parts of BCD. Also 100+ Swainson
hawks in or groups over BCD. Took plain - colored tan-
golden-marked (orange),
ager, palm tanager, yellow warbler, flycatcher, in net near
mist
SW corner Chapman House. Banded mostly released.
October 31, 1956. Net up until 2 p.m. Took many
plain-colored tanagers, and chestnut-sided warbler, there - a
Bleuet Euphonia (specimen), green honeycreeper
November 3, 1956. Two Notharcus macrohynchus in mist
net, Chapman House, midday. Banded & released. Black tern
still over Izatim Lake. Saw 2 Derdusia purplorevis on Von
Tyne trail.
November 6, 1956.
Saw a Corcyzus americanus

in clearing, close, several times. At 8:30 p.m. a large
brown woodcreeper (Xiphorhynchus guttifer) seen & flushed
from under leaves of S. side of old Batch Office. (Latin
Banded)
November 21, 1956 about 2 a.m. on nearly clear night with
nearly full moon heard 3 kinds owls in area of beginning of
Lutz and Dorato Trails. Apparent Pulsatrix woof's; a slurred
soft but clean whistle G - A - G and perhaps descending, as
heard one night earlier this month; a sub single explosive
short bout of whistle quality, note D, occasionally followed
by a similar bout about a note higher (like Bubo W.?)
November 23, 1956. Again heard single strong hoot about 6
in early a.m. near start of Lutz trail.
