Koford 2 Birds - general September 16, 1956. Barro Colorado Is., Canal Zone. The mango tree near Snyder Molino 1/2 mi in mud creek lay birds - toucans, ant birds, woodpeckers, & this afternoon a crested guan. Mango berries ripe + falling. // Yesterday I put out 3 "Humming bird" feeders - plaster bowls with sugar water inside. These at various points near buildings in main clearing. Now seen at feeders this morning but at Isertia (in bloom E side Old Lab) saw one black with green throat feeding or fly in tubular yellow flowers. Few flowers now in clearing area. Planted some Heliconia and shrubs & cuttings from vicinity. // Blue-gray swallow with white rumps on log stubs a few inches above water in lake. // Saw 5t large irridescent Cretophaga more[illegible] in broadleaf large shrub at edge water 100 yds, NE of germina house. September 22, 1956 Gamboa, C. Z. about 6 a.m. saw about 50 in Amazons in scrunching flock going east on lower slope of Bamboo hill. Largest such flock yet seen here. Usually only 2 to 6. // Bar Town on trail saw a juvenile woodcreeper, apparently too young to fly. Adult came to 6' of young. Both called in same manner. Straight bill, buff streaks on head & ventral parts, rather uniform brown over rest of bird; thick sized. Feather sheaths visible in tail. Whitish cell of several rapid meter. October 14, 1956. Saw a righthand bigh seen clearing at 6 a.m. & 100+ swallowes milling over sloping buildings to 7 a.m. October 5 1956 Near Molino Weze Canal Zone. Saw several groups of 30+ tanbers, apparently Buteos, with long tails, some with transverse bands, circling. (Not Swainsons).
