Lagopus lagopus 1. Cade 1959 16 May Imave River At a point on the Coelmine trail, 15 miles N. of the Beaver, a single cock ptarmigan was seen. At the sand dune Ewa-across the river from the dunes - 3 mowt 8787 came in and some aggressive chasing was noted. Later at a point on the right limit near where the trail crosses into the river, Troop 8787 and 299 were seen. All of the males were in same stage of molt - the cuticle neck was in the broody plumage but, the head was mottled - still mostly white. The two 99 had mottled necks and heads. Tracks and wing marks of ptarmigan were seen in two places on the snow near the goose well south of Barrow the day before yesterday. 25 May Pitmegea River - two males and one female were seen along the creek which borrows the upper river end of this Stuck area. There were in an area where there were also rock ptarmigan Both cocks were displaying
