11 June Aniak, Alaska
One new m. forty ARL leut at 0230
and a pair was seen west of there about
0300.
Several 77 were seen in the afternoon.
Courtship and territorial display is conspicuous.
12 June About 6-8 more seen on the riverics
series blucker. More seen on the side of the
hill, but probably are there, along the
bushy creeks. Seem to be about the same
number as in 52.
13 June Three or four 77 seen in the river bottom
next to oil well. A nest with 7 eggs was
found at the base of the hill just where Bearpaws
Creek breaks out of the foot hills onto the upper
river bunch. It was located in a depression on
top of a conspicuous Euciphora hemmack by
the side of old weasel trail, about 30-40 feet
from the nearest riparian brush. They flew off
under my feet and stayed about 30 yds out while
I was at rest.
Remains of ptarmigan are common all over,
as usual. Several kills seen on Chukat Mt.
14 June Several local 77 heard calling in the late evening
21 June Several 77 and a few 99 seen on each day.
30 July -Several groups of 10-15 molting adults seen
on the island before Aniak. Perhaps H. bobidin all?
