Faleo peregrinus
4 June Peters-Schweder Lakes - At a point on
"Butte" ca. about 6 mi NW of Schweder L,
in the upper edge of the foothills province,
a ♀ with 4 eggs was found on a shale
bluff, facing westw. A pair of roughlegs
was also on the same series of bluffs
about 300 yards upstream. The travel
did not put in an appearance while
we were there - for ca. 20 min. Avie
observed by binoculars only. Avie
site 50 ft up from river & 50 below
bank on a pilepile of shale. Located
on a mound of loose shale chips which
had accumulated on a ledge of the bluff,
from sliding above. Mound about 2 ft
high and ca 4 ft diam at base. Flat
surface on top where nest, located
about 18" diameter (estimated from
companion with length of bird when
she was pushed on the nest). Site could
easily be destroyed by further sliding
from above but otherwise the location
is invulnerable except by rope. Altitude
from map with 100 ft contours appears to
be about 2200 ft.
