Lemmus trimicrusovatus
8 June - Baasen
On the old birch ridge immediately S of
the site, a lichen-grass-heath area - sparse
vegetation, some frost boils - snow off but hanging
on both sides. - In 500 paces along the
exposed ground-areas in this place I saw only
1 doubtful fresh sign - a possible tunnel
under the snow. Old sign everywhere - veg-
tation cut down from last year - etc.
On Central Marsh - where ca 10% of
ground is exposed from snow - very wet and
muddy all over - in 200 paces along the
exposed ground - snow in two places I saw no
fresh sign - but again much old sign.
Half Moon - Three
In a grass - Casey around with some flat-
top polygons and low ericaceous stuff with fair
drainage - dead stems 6-12 inches - wet ground
in 400 paces got 14 fresh signs or recent
winter activity - trail, wish fresh droppings or-
winter nets etc.
On higher ground near the river - Cassope,
Lugos - Sedum - Carex mixed low meadows -
100 paces gives no fresh signs but hard ground
to interpret. These signs may have been
Microtus or Lemmus or both. May now
our name view the traces that looked like Microtus
