Code 1958 Ursus horribilis (richardsonii) 20 July Uniat This evening while going to a pond just back of the heavy duty shed To get some water, Harold Griffin suddenly encountered a yowling, which emerged from some tall weeds beside the wood to the old-farmutter shock and ran at him. Griffin climbed up a tree by shed, and the bear ran on into some elder brush and disappeared. We could not locate it afterward, but the dog set up a fearful howl when we took her into the area. 2 July Colville River- just above Oolawagaputk - One seen swimming across the river below the Falcon bluff- adult + July Colville River- ca 20 miles above Uniat- an adult was seen walking over a gravel bar along the river. As the boat approached, it stood upon hind legs and looked at us. It did not run away until I shouted at it from about 75 yards away. 5 July Colville River- at the Coelslaw bluff, just above Uniat.- while we were resting on top of the bluff, we saw an adult bear wading out from the left limit of the river.
