1. Cade 1958 Mustela vixosa 24 June - cont Pete Sovalik found a family of weasels near the village last July. Mr. Brewer says no one reported seeing weasels all last winter; yet they must have been present in some numbers. Again the date suggest that the weasel population moved into the Bawaw area from somewhere rather than having been produced locally from a small reservoir of breeders. If the lemmings themselves were moving into the Bawaw area last fall, perhaps the weasels followed them. July Bawaw- Our captive weasel has had a live white quail caged with him for 3 days. So far the weasel has shown little interest in the quail and certainly no inclination to kill it. There has been plenty of dead food available in the cage at all times. When a dead lemur is placed in the terrarium, the weasel immediately drops it into his nest. He consumes it there later working the feathers, wings etc. into the nesting material. This would seem to support our view that this
