Spermophilus endemicus
27 June Coal Mine - Meade River
Despite the good habitat conditions
prevaling all over this country for
ground squirrels and the frequent encounters
of old lemmings, I saw only first
animal today on the left limit of the
river at our first stop about a mile
and a half above the Coal Mine.
28 June Saw one girtwig on a high bank along
the large lake near T 708.
0 June Several seen along the sandy bluffs
fronting on the river below the millage.
9-17 July Umiat - none seen yet in areas where
previously there has always been some.
-25 July Colville River, from Dolanmagorik to
Umiat - only three individuals seen
or heard on this stretch where previously
they have been seen commonly.
August Franklin Bluffs - Sogavanihtok River -
common all over the river terraces
and on the bluffs.
17 August Obijilak River - seen common in
the flood plain and on the old terraces.
Occurs less commonly on the steep
rocky spools of the valley.
-22 August Jogo Lake - very abundant on thermovaries
and in flood plain - more common even
than last year - 1-8 corvete Jamesway - [illegible]
