Cade 1958 Alopes lagopus 18 June east of Barrow One was seen sitting out on tussock timber just a few miles west of Teshekpuk Lake. Very few were reported along the coast during the winter. None taken at Barrow and very few at Wainwright. Maher has precise figures. 20 June Barrow - at 1905 Brock and I saw a fox digging on the timber near T9. When it dug up it stopped and moved off-not too fast-westward along Fresh Lake. 22 June Barrow - a phalapope which had been caught in a trap on T6 appeared to have been eaten by a fox. No scat was found, but feathers were strewn over the ground in an area of two-three square yards-no body material or other parts were left-just feathers. This is the typical appearance of a fox kill. 3 June Barrow - at 1306 I saw one loafing along in south part of Cutwal Marsh. He gave a little woup, stopped and rolled on his back for a few seconds, saw a little feather and then rolled again. He was about half way into summer pelage.
